So I am sucking at Livejournal, but quite active on facebook (or, more accurately, facebook game applications).  I need to read.  My 50 book challenge count is sucking so much....agh!  I feel like such an unproductive waste.

On the bright side, after giving me the opportunity to move 3k miles and keep my job, my company is "restructuring".  "Restructuring" = eliminating the business unit I support.  SO...I should be out of work in maybe a month, maybe 2.   I call it bright side because they keep telling us how wonderful this is for the company and how those who perhaps get jobs with partner companies (not finance people though) will be "building their careers."

It's been interesting. I've seen about 15 homes and been in one car accident:

The state plows missed a pile of slush, said pile sent us spinning off the road, and then the state plow came by and plowed us in.

That said, we've narrowed it down to 3 houses:

So, now I think we are at the "what do we decide stage."  The time zone difference is making morning discussion of this very difficult.

And it is currently 11.8 degrees at 9:30am.

I didn't read as much as I had hoped in 2008, but I read some pretty great books. My three favorite: Diamond's Collapse, Alexander's The Bounty, and Kostova's The Historian. All three are books have stayed with me all year, occassionally coming up in conversations or just popping up in my head while I listen to the radio, etc.

Shaun White Snowboarding Road Trip for the Wii.

I am sure I look like an idiot playing, and I fell off the Wii board at one point, but it ROCKS!

We've sent my parents on several "drive-bys" of potential properties plus had official walk-throughs of a few houses.  And ones with potential are being bought up quickly, which surprises me given the economic situation in RI and the time of year.  We are now trying to get them into another house.  It is 3k square feet, so pretty big (given that it is only 7 total rooms, and 3 of those are bedrooms).  On 1/2 an acre.  On a haunted road.  Anyway, given the size and location if this looks promising we may just make a big sight unseen (well, unseen directly by us....we will get photos from the parentals).  Though given our past luck, this will probably be off the market by Wednesday.

SO much later than I usually am this year.  And I should have spent today cleaning up the apartment...so now Wednesday is probably going to be a stressful cleaning nightmare.
Almost missed getting my parents' gifts mailed.  I feel bad, as we didn't get them much this year, especially since they are doing all sorts of running around throughout RI & MA to look at homes for us.  Hopefully we can make it up to them once we move out there.

Kittens have been crazy.  Stokely, who previously dislocated her hip, electrocuted herself on Christmas tree lights and ultimately got a big ol' abscess on her paw.  So another visit to the vet.

And Casey has become "famous": he now appears on the website for one of our favorite vendors at the local farmers' market: Sunnica  Scroll down and you'll see Casey eating.  I defintely recommend her stuff, very well made!

Work has been crazy.  I can never get to the projects I need to because I've rebudgeted the same 2 programs 20+ times each.  Look, tell us what you'll be able to pay.  We'll figure out something.  But having us spinning our wheels coming up with scenarios while you change how much money you will pay in total each time you review what we provide is NOT productive.  Grrr.

NaNo: Well, lack of progress. This could be my worst year, though I am still upbeat. Because the things getting in the way aren't dragging down my spirits. Work, yes. But the CA History class is taking up much time, and I am really enjoying that. Ditto prepping for Thanksgiving. I'll try to do a big push this weekend. But I am ok with my status. By next year we should be in our own house, and I must believe things will be better.

Work: well, I keep getting things done, though they aren't the 3 big things hanging on the deadline horizon. I am thinking there will be much overtime next week.

CA History: Just 1 paper left, though we don't have a topic yet and it is due in 2 weeks...which annoys me a bit. But I've really learned a lot.

50 book challenge: Again, not doing as well as I had wanted. But I've read some really interesting books this year.

Home search: my real estate agent is taking my parents to view 3 houses on Friday.  Perhaps one will blow us away.  Though none of them have to and I am going out in January to do my own searching.

NaNo isn't going as well as I had hoped. I had three days of "not writing" which bummed me out, and when I did write, it wasn't much. So there goes all my hopes of catching up this week. I have hopes for this coming week, as well as Thanksgiving weekend. That said, I rationally know I should be happy that I am making progress....just not a ton of progress.

On the bright side, I watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit? for my CA History "film analysis" paper due next week. I was surprised how well the animation held up...and how much I still enjoyed the movie.

OH...and I finished Land So Strange, this amazing nonfiction account of a group of Spanish settlers/conquerors bound for northern Mexico who accidently landed on Western Florida and walked/rafted around the Gulf of Mexico. Very interesting and I definitely recommend it for anyone with even a passing interest in North American history. I'm still behind my book count from last year, but I am really enjoying a lot of what I've read this year. Though....I really need more comics and/or graphic novels. I'm sorely lacking on that front.
